This mantis shrimp was buried in the sand and would have been very easy to miss for divers or fish. Unfortunately for the fish, that means they would have ended up being this shrimp's next meal. It was less skittish than other mantis shrimp found in the open because it is reluctant to leave its burrow. This species is very uncommon.
